Rev. Stanislaus J. Weinert, O.S.A. (1885-1962)

Rev. Stanislaus J. Weinert, O.S.A. entered eternal life May 21, 1962.

Stanislaus John Weinert was born April 1, 1885 in Trzemeszno, Poland to Anastasius and Anna Wienert. He was Baptized in April, 1885 at St. Augustine Catholic Parish, Trzemeszno.

He joined the Polish Province of the Augustinian Order, being received into the Augustinian Novitiate May 10, 1904. He professed simple (temporary) vows in the Order of St. Augustine June 10, 1905 and solemn (permanent) vows March 1, 1908. He was ordained a Priest August 2, 1908.

After his ordination, Father Weinert continued his theological studies at the University of Wurzburg, Germany, where he earned an M. A. in Theology.

Father Weinert taught for several years in various colleges administered by the Augustinian Order in Italy. At the outbreak of World War I, he was recalled to Poland to serve as a Chaplain to a calvary division of the Polish Army. When his unit was captured by the Germans, he performed the duties of a Chaplain for the German Army until the end of the war.

In 1922 Father Weinert migrated to the United States to serve the Polish-speaking parishioners of St. Augustine Catholic Parish, Detroit, Michigan. He ministered there until 1955. He became a citizen of the United States in 1929. He was affiliated to the Augustinians of the Midwest (Province of Our Mother of Good Counsel) in 1955.

Because of health problems, Father Weinert retired in 1955. He was assigned to St. Rita Monastery, Chicago, Illinois. He died there May 21, 1962 of a heart attack.

He is buried in the Augustinian plot at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Alsip, Illinois.
